TRP - Recommended CT protocol for prosthesis request

To allow correct 3D reconstruction and accurate prosthesis design, the CT examination must be acquired with a high-definition protocol for bone study, avoiding motion and stair-step artifacts.

The following acquisition protocol is recommended:

Patient positioning and acquisition window

• Dorsal recumbency with limbs extended and parallel, preferably in apnea during scanning to avoid motion artifacts.
• The acquisition window must extend from dorsal to the acetabular margin, including the greater femoral trochanter, to the middle third of the metatarsals.

Acquisition parameters

• Acquisition preset: Bone.
• Slice thickness: the smallest available on the scanner, preferably 0.625 mm.
• Pitch: < 1. kV: 120. mA: according to scanner settings, preferably not below 200 mA when possible.
• Reconstruction: Bone Plus / Ultra or equivalent algorithms available on the CT scanner.

If needed, the study may be retro-reconstructed using the scanner's high-definition bone algorithms.
